Islamic Republic of Pakistan was formed as a result of the partition of British India on 14th August 1947. The day is celebrated each year as "Independence Day/Jashan-e-Azadi" by Pakistanis all over Pakistan and the world. The Muslims and Non-Muslims after decades of tireless efforts and complications finally got a separate homeland with their own authority.
Forming of Today's Pakistan
Pakistan until 1971 was a two-wing country; West Pakistan included the west Indian provinces of Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab and NWFP, each with their own culture while East Pakistan was the divided-into-half pre-partition province of Bengal.
In 1971 a civil war happened in East Pakistan during which on 26 March the Bengali people declared a sovereign state of Bangladesh. The war ultimately led to the Indo-Pakistan 1971 war which proved disastrous for the growing economies of both Pakistan and India.
Pakistan - the Name
The name Pakistan was conceived by Chaudhry Rehmat Ali in 1933 when he published his pamphlet "Now or Never". The name has two meanings. One is clear if one knows Urdu, the land of the Pak, the land of the pure. The other is acronym for the areas of Pakistan. Punjab, North-West Frontier Province (Afghan Province), Kashmir,Sindh, and Baluchistan.i was inserted to ease pronunciation.
Before I start posting about the miracles, wonders and astonishing awesomeness found in the Land of the Pure I will write a post summarising the present Pakistan. So subscribe to remain updated, see you next time.
