Evident from a seal found in the site it is suggested that the name of the city was Kukkutarma (city of the cock (Dravidian Name). But the modern name is in Sindhi "Mohenjo Daro" meaning Mound of the dead.

I think most of you may know about Mohen Jo Daro. It along with Harrapa were the two major cities of the Indus Civilization which developed around 3000 BC (5012 Years Ago). The site of Mohen Jo Daro if looked from far looks like a well-planned and civilized city. The site has contributed a lot in helping historians figure out the Indus Civilization.
The city was abandoned in the 19th Century BC due to a natural disaster. It is believed that a Earth quake occurred here because through the excavations it was found that many bodies were near doors. They may have been trying to escape.
The site is a great location if one wants to learn about the Indus Civilization. The Indus Civilization existed at the same time as the Egyptian and Mesopotamia civilization.
If Pakistani government works on improving the infrastructure around the site and improves security I believe many people around the world would want to come here. Because the site is 5000 years old and still standing. That is also the reason why it's a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The city gives evidence of mastery in several fields. There are evidences of pottery, architecture, government, farming, public bath and politics.
The site is under threat from flooding and salinity and archaeologists believe it can disappear in twenty years if not preserved properly. Sad.
